Dave Ryding
Dave Ryding didn't just break records. He broke the rules of what British sport was supposed to look like.
The first British athlete in history to win a FIS Alpine Ski World Cup race, Dave's 2022 victory at the legendary Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel, the most feared and prestigious race on the ski racing calendar, wasn't just a personal triumph. It was a moment that stopped a nation and rewrote what's possible.
A five-time Winter Olympian, Dave spent over two decades competing at the absolute pinnacle of alpine ski racing, one of the most physically brutal, technically demanding and psychologically relentless sports in the world. He did it without the infrastructure, funding or tradition of the Alpine nations who dominate the sport. He did it from a dry ski slope in Lancashire.
